A photo every 10 minutes
Webcam by locomotive
Traincam was a webcam project for MySwitzerland.com (Switzerland Tourism) which created photos from a locomotive.
A special camera was installed in an SBB Re 460 078-9 locomotive, which took a photo every 10 minutes and transferred it to an FTP server via GSM.

The website (traincam.ch) then displayed the webcam images from this server. The images were automatically loaded by an image upload script and integrated into a web gallery. These photos were also published on the Swiss Tourism website (myswitzerland.com).
During 14 years (2000-2014) hundreds of thousands of pictures were taken and put online.
The project was declared completed in 2014.
Traincam was present in the media all over the world in newspapers, magazines and TV programs and therefore had quite a large fan base. Many railroad fans (also known as ferrophiles) have tried to locate the locomotive and then position themselves in front of it for a photo. Gewissen has actually succeeded in doing this.
One of our developers has a funny anecdote to tell about this project: During a maintenance job at Bern station, he touched the locomotive's horn while adjusting the camera (oooops...). The people walking past got a mighty fright when the horn blasted their ears at full volume.
Good - we now know where the horn is :-)
